What is the Women’s Circle? 

This is a group of women - professionals, moms, friends, partners, and so much more - who come from all corners of the world and meet regularly to join in an open conversation. 

The aim of our circle is to offer a space for international women in Groningen. Living in another country can be great, but it also brings a lot of challenges and struggles. This is your opportunity to come and share your thoughts, ideas and experiences. The circle is a place to find empathy, a support network in your new home, and perhaps a new friend or two - this is where you can find your tribe ("tribu"). 

This meetup is also a chance to practice your English skills! 

How does it work? 

At the circle, we are guided by the principles of privacy, non-judgement and empathy. 

Our activity follows the Lean In structure. One of the main techniques of our circle is the use of Connection Cards. These were originally developed by a group of psychologists as an activity to help people feel closer to one another. They are also known as “36 questions to fall in love”, as each question helps create and develop connection and closeness. Each session will focus on a couple of these questions as the core of each meeting. 

Disclaimer: This activity does not replace professional, psychological help (if needed), and it is intended as a space for sharing. The level or depth of participation and sharing during the sessions is up to each individual. 

When? Fridays from 10:00 – 12:30

Where? at the IWCN, Gedempte Zuiderdiep 98

Who can join this? This activity is aimed at single, married, and/or divorced women (note: It’s OK if you want to join a session and bring your baby/child along. Just leave a note on the registration form* including the age of your child) 

Participants per session: Maximum of 10 

Any other requirements? Participants should have a B1/B2 level of English proficiency 

*Advance registration is mandatory. 

About our host: Our Women's Circle host is Cata, a Chilean who has been living in Groningen with her family since November 2020. She is also a mum, wife, and a lecturer at the Hanze University.

Covid Prevention: Stay home if you have flu symptoms. If you have been around someone with the flu, please do a self test before attending.
