Let’s go with us to discover a pleasant harbour city called Delfzijl in Groningen Province.

Delftzijl has been inextricably linked to ships and water for hundreds of years. It is a city full of adventurous stories about occupations and floods. The new seawall protects residents against storm surges. This is the decor of the city center of Delfzijl. A city with an attractive range of shops and restaurants and with a unique maritime character.

The city centre and the harbour area are small enough to explore on foot. We will take a look at windmill Adam, Monument for Ede Staal, Hervormde Kerk, Waterpoort. MuzeeAquarium. We will stroll along the seaside promenade, watching ships heading in or out. It offers fine views of the harbour, where there's always something going on. We will take a lunch break at Eemshotel’s restaurant.

Details of the Trip

The trip will start at about 10:30 in Delfzijl and will last around 5 hours.

The meeting point will be sent by email on Friday afternoon.

There's a train connection from Groningen, which leaves every half-hour (€8.12, 37 minutes), please check out https://9292.nl/en.

Registration is required. Members of Connect International have priority for registration for the trip.

Costs: train ticket €8.12 if you go by train + whatever you wish to spend on consumptions for the lunch

"My husband and I came to Groningen two years ago for his studies. At first, I had absolutely no acquaintance here. I felt lost, not knowing where to go, who to meet, nor what to do. “Since I came to the Netherlands over a year ago, Connect International has helped me a lot. It is very hard being a newcomer in a foreign country. I remember myself lonely and borderline depressed before I started to attend Connect events and socialize there. I got to know my first friends in the Netherlands and it was such a relief.
